UV INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS DISCOURAGE THE USE OF UV LIGHT ON THE HUMAN BODY TO DISINFECT AGAINST THE CORONAVIRUS

The International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA) and RadTech North America inform the public that there are no protocols to advise or to permit the safe use of UV light directly on the human body at the wavelengths and exposures proven to efficiently kill viruses such as SARS-CoV-2.

UV4Plants Bursaries to attend the 3rd Network Meeting

UV4Plants Bursaries UV4Plants is offering 2 bursaries of 300 Euros each to early stage researchers (PhD students and postdocs up to 8 years after their PhD) who will attend the 3rd Network Meeting of the UV4Plants Association (1-3 April 2020 in Kiel, Germany) and give an oral or poster presentation. Only members of UV4plants are eligible. Bursary holders will be expected to write a short article about their attendance at the conference for the UV4plants Bulletin. The bursaries are paid to successful applicants after the network meeting, when the condition of attendance, presentation and short article for the UV4plants Bulletin has been fulfilled. The article for the UV4plants Bulletin needs to be submitted through the OJS submission system. Applications, including the submitted abstract and a statement (max 200 words) explaining why the applicant merits award of the bursary should be sent to secretary@uv4plants.org by 5 March 2020.

UV4Plants at the Light & Life, 2019 ESP-IUPB World Congress, Barcelona

During the last joint ESP-IUPB World Congress (17th International Congress on Photobiology and 18th Congress of the European Society for Photobiology), held in Barcelona on August 25-30th 2019, UV4Plants members presented several talks and posters dedicated to the role of UV in plants. Novel findings and perspectives of UV-research were covered by a key note lecture by Dongping Zhong and on several sessions devoted to plant, photosensory and environmental photobiology: “UV Radiation and Rapid Climate Change: Implications for Plants and Ecosystem”, “Blue Light and UV Receptors. In Memoriam Winslow Briggs”, “Effect of UV Light on Plants”, “Reactive Oxygen Species in Photosynthetic Organisms: Sensing and Defense”, “Photoreceptors and Plant Development”. Additionally, on Wednesday 28 August, a social event for UV4Plants members was held in the Ayre Hotel Gran Via to strengthen the collaboration in a nice and friendly atmosphere.
