April 1997
The first item, is an e-mail message sent by Andy McLeod in April 1997 concerning UV-A controls in UV-B experiments. Questions raised in this message, remain to a large extent unanswered, and some of the methodological implications are sometimes ignored still nowadays. More details on the subject are given in papers published at the time: Newsham, K. K.; McLeod, A. R.; Greenslade, P. D. & Emmett, A. A. (1996) Appropriate controls in outdoor UV-B supplementation experiments Global Change Biology, 2, 319-324, DOI: 10.1111/j.1365-2486.1996.tb00083.x. McLeod, A. R. (1997) Outdoor supplementation systems for studies of the effects of increased UV-B radiation. Plant Ecology, 128, 78-92, DOI: 10.1023/A:1009794427697
I found the print-out of this message last week while cleaning my office. We thank Andy for allowing us to post it here.
